 Progress shots of the piece. This one really tested my drawing ability because I couldn't 

get it to look right until re-drawing it 3 times and having help with photo reference towards the end. Once the drawing was correct a sense of relief and relaxed feeling came over me and really let me play with the values in the shadows to get a luminescent feel. One of my favorite parts besides her expression were how the dots made a big difference on the design of the composition. Hope you enjoy:)

Robin's figure painting

This is a before image

 Finished this figure painting of Robin last night from a figure session. She posed for 3 hours and after words I took a picture and from the image I was able to finish this painting. I had originally painted the figure in only the blue color but I felt that it was even close to exploring mark making color and playing with accidents. So I took a quarter inch brush and started to obliterate some of the figure with the yellowish green color. I'm happy that I did it, it became more exciting to paint and it looks better, plus it was a fun challenge. Porcelain

Had the wonderful pleasure of shooting with the amazing Porcelain for my beauty collection series. The photo shoot came out incredible and this is a painting study from said shoot. Later there will be 3 big paintings created from the photo the shoot.  Looking forward to getting started on them. 

New figure paintings for sale

Hello I had some time last night to shoot two recent figure paintings. I love playing with color and it looks like I still have a lot to learn with exploring the use of saturated color. The Candice drawing was an effort to use this turquoise pastel color that I don't normally use but makes for a beautiful highlight. Instead of going from Warm to cool the piece goes from cool to warm. It might be that we don't normally see the cool to warm lighting or notice it but it makes for a very compelling look. The painting of Lindsay was about capturing the fall out lighting and the warm to cool transition. The difficulty with this painting was getting the transition color looking right and figuring out where that transition of color should begin and end. Muse book 3 paintings

I'm working on getting all the drawings scanned from the second series of drawings from the Muse book. And on the third series I started to paint with Holbiens Acrylic Gouache. A description of them would be that the paints are more opaque then Acrylics and they do not re activate like gouache. I consider them the best of both worlds. Here are a few of the paintings so far. With the paintings I would like to get better at creating a space for each figure to live in. My approach to this problem is looking at landscapes that are almost abstract but still have the sense of space that can be put into the a painting. The fifth painting down is one of my favorite and it the background was inspired by Henrique Oliveira's installations. The top painting is the most recent one and the background was inspired by this photo. The photos in that set are gorgeous and what was kept from those photos in the painting was the center having saturated color and the dark gradient on the outside edge. Some of the marks were made with a palette knife.
